About

Hi! I’m Missi.

I’m a 27 year old country girl who now calls Melbourne home. I live with my cheeky little cat Peach and live close by to my even cheekier boyfriend. I am a vet by day (and night, and weekends) and work in Melbourne’s inner east helping people and their pets.

A diverse identity is important to me so I strive to always be more and am forever growing and learning. Growth is difficult but isn’t life so much more enjoyable when we challenge ourselves? Perhaps not at the time but certainly upon reflection.

So what else am I apart from a vet, a girlfriend and a cat owner?

I’m currently a volunteer scientist as part of the Scientist in Schools program through the CSIRO. I visit my paired school (an all girls school!) regularly to teach them about being a vet and practicing science daily. It’s incredibly rewarding to inspire young girls to enjoy science and to show them that not only boys are good at maths and physics! My passion for teaching grew through my volunteering experiences and I am now also a tutor for primary school students in math and English. Seeing my first student smile about her Harry Potter multiplication examples brought an even bigger smile to my face! Tutoring has brought another dimension and challenge to my life.

I love travelling and my most recent overseas trip was to Vietnam in 2016. In 2016 I was lucky enough to have gone on a number “Goober Getaways” with my boyfriend (who is a total goober!) to Brisbane for funsies, Tasmania and Wilson’s Prom for hiking and Mt Buller for snowboarding and snowball fights. Japan in March 2017 is next on the list!

My Italian background gave me no choice but to love cooking and love eating even more. I’m a “kangatarian” which is a lot of fun to say and it means I’m a vegetarian who also eats kangaroo. I enjoy cooking new things and love dining out but won’t say no to take away on the couch on a Friday night in.

I started running at the end of 2015 and completed my first 10km as part of Run Melbourne in 2016. I was sore for a couple of days after that! Running has been my best source of stress relief and endorphin release so I’m tempted to sign up for a 21km to keep myself running but I’m too scared to commit just yet. I’ve recently joined a gym (I never thought I’d say that!) and I’m loving it. It’s a women’s only gym and it’s great to do classes with others around me who are also doing what they can to look after themselves and develop a healthy lifestyle.

I’m sensitive. Now that may be an understatement. I’m also a Romantic and I’m proud to say it because for a long time I fought against it. I pride myself on being an independent woman who don’t need no man (but loves her man nonetheless!) and thought I had to be one or the other but I’m both! I cry more than I would like because it often gets in the way of general life activities but when I experience something whether it’s pure joy or sadness I really feel it. And that’s okay.

I also enjoy reading, drinking tea, watching movies, writing (now blogging) and dancing around in my bedroom for fun.

That’s me!
